Why swim in plastic when you can swim in wool?

Hello and welcome to Swimm.

The original contemporary wool swimwear brand established in 2018.

Swimm is an independently owned, natural and plastic-free swimwear brand from Australia. The fabric is made from Australian merino wool and production, packaging and shipping is all based in Melbourne. The packaging is reusable, recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. The fabric itself is also fully biodegradable — unlike synthetic swimwear, merino wool breaks down naturally.

Having built three clothing brands through Monday, my former bricks-and-mortar boutique, I went on to stock several other boutiques — before stepping back from the industry for a while. Swimm was the natural next step — a material-led brand, with a zero-waste philosophy there from the beginning.

The idea and testing process began in 2015 — different ratios, different knit structures. Once the right blend was found, I wore and tested it in the water for over a year. Chlorinated pools, heated pools, the sea. I had to be certain.

I took the samples to stores along the east coast — not to sell, just to gauge the concept. Some scoffed. Some loved it. I placed the fabric order in three colours. Swimm was launched in 2018.

The 96/4 merino-elastane blend, knitted for four-way stretch, was the result. Not a guess — a conclusion three years in the making.
